Katoomba & The Blue Mountains

Only a few hours away from Sydney, but a world away from it all, the Blue Mountains are a day trip worth taking. Considered a World Heritage Site, the Blue Mountains consist mainly of a sandstone plateau, and dissected by gorges up to 760 metres deep. The area receives the occasional snowfall during the winter months, but is quite pleasant during the summer – that is, if you’re willing to brave the crowds.

If you’re travelling to the Katoomba or Leura area, don’t rush off. Take a hike, enjoy a cup of coffee at a local cafe, and appreciate the escape from the motropolis that Sydney has become.
