Hosting Christmas Dinner

Christmas Table Setting

Hosting Christmas was what we imagined would be the best way to break in the new house. We were right.

Gingerbread Extravangza

Gingerbread HousesWith the family here, and the Holiday celebrations in full swing, there’s nothing like the taste, smell, and sight of a well decorated gingerbread house to put you in the mood for Christmas.

Thanks to an amazing neighbour, the women and children of the neighbourhood got together and went to town decorating these pre-made gingerbread houses to within an inch of their lives. Some extravagant, but all delicious, these houses won’t stand a chance. They’ll be gone by the end of the week I’m sure.

All coming together

Front of our houseAlmost a month on, and things are finally starting to come together. The lawn is taking nicely, the driveway is looking good, and the fence is doing its job of keeping the dog in the backyard. Even inside, the house is starting to feel like a home – and it better! Merry Christmas!

Merry ChristmasMerry Christmas everyone! This year it seems like Christmas is going to be relatively low key. We’re in the process of moving out of our old place, as we need to be out by January 8th, and it seems like all we can think about is being in the new house by Christmas next year. We’re likely to move in some time in September/October next year, which will be just about perfect – it’ll give us a few months to get ready for my family to come visit from the States. While my parents have been out a number of times, it’ll be the first trip out for my brother, my sister-in-law, and my neice.

So, I’m not very good at it, and it’s not necessarily my cup of tea, but Megan is already planning on how to decorate the new house for Christmas next year. While she’s got a great sense for decorating, she HAS already made it known to me that our upstairs front balcony will have a big blow up Santa on it. Over the top? Probably. Expensive? Likely. But what the heck – it’s Christmas isn’t it? What’s wrong with going a bit over the top?

Happy Holidays!

An Aussie Christmas: Beer, BBQ, Beach

Aussie Christmas

While the rain is bucketing down in Southern California, and snow is falling near the San Francisco Bay area, we in Australia are gearing up for a Christmas that promises to be full of laughter, cheer, and the beach. Ah yes, Christmas time in Australia. Warm weather, a few beers with close mates and family, and a BBQ. Now that Christmas is actually upon us, I’m ready to celebrate. When I first came to Australia for Christmas three years ago, I thought I’d miss the cold, cozy weather that comes with Christmas; bundled up inside by the fire.

I was wrong.
