HOME Magazine Interview

Home MagazineIn an earlier post, I mentioned the possibility of HOME Magazine (the insert in the Sunday Edition of The Telegraph) doing a piece on our experience of building with Metricon Homes, Blacktown Council, and how we came to live at Stonecutters Ridge. This morning, I received confirmation that they’ve greenlighted the story.

So, once we’re in and situated, we’ll have the unique opportunity to talk about experiences – both good and bad about building our own home as well as our reasons behind choosing Stonecutters Ridge as a place to settle down and stay while. It looks like they’ll not only send someone out to interview us about the home building process, but a photographer as well. It’ll be an unfamiliar position for me – for once I won’t be the one taking the pictures!

It’s likely to be interesting speaking to someone who is heavily involved in home design/building. Sure, we might have a lot of stories to tell, but I’m looking forward to seeing how our process stacks up against others that they may have spoken with in the past.

Ups & downs, with a sideways thrown in for good measure

bang headThe Council approval process has been a journey, to say the least. Today however, was a journey of it’s own. One you would not believe…

Megan arrived to work this morning with excellent news. The very first email she received today was an email from our contact at Blacktown Council stating that he had spoken to the bifold door manufacturer company and all his worries and hesitations about approving the doors were put as ease. All he was waiting for now was a letter documenting what was discussed during the conversation and then the house was going to be approved!

Seemed all pretty straight forward to me – just draft up a letter, send it across, and we were on our way! So from 9am this morning, Megan and I were in a fantastic mood…until right around 4:45pm. It was then that Megan received a call from our builder, stating we were back to square one…

New Stonecutter’s Ridge website

While we’ve been working with council to get the final approval across the line, we noticed that things have been changing over on the Stonecutter’s Ridge website. Well, sort of. The layout of the website hasn’t changed, nor has the ‘blog’ (I use the term lightly, as it’s rarely updated) that’s being kept on the site, but the masterplan map that’s available for users is now ‘interactive‘.

stonecutters ridge layoutAfter a poorly disguised attempt to get leads off the site visitors that forces you to submit your contact details, you can now mouse over to see the individual lot prices, which are under offer, and which have been sold. You can view the development as a whole, or zoom in to see details of the individual lots. I must admit, some of the lots are reasonably priced – others, not so much.

However, judging by the number of lots sold or under offer from within the different releases, it looks like sales are starting to pick up. I’d imagine it helps that houses are actually starting to go up around the development.

Moving, while standing still – Problems with Blacktown Council

under construction

While we don’t have much to report, our current Customer Support Rep at Metricon has been working non stop in an attempt to get Blacktown Council to approve the plans. She has been in constant contact with us throughout the day and even gave us a ring before leaving for the day, despite having no new information. The level of customer service has been supurb thus far, and after understanding what is happening with the approval process, I can’t really fault Metricon for the delay.

The developer of Stonecutters Ridge, Medallist, has also stepped up to the plate when they got wind of the issues we were having. One of the additional issues that Council has brought up is the existing wooden fence that is on two sides of our lot. Council is saying we can’t have a wooden fence, yet Medallist was allowed to build a fence when developing the land.
