Rating our build with Metricon Homes

Anyone who has built a home, or even come close to attempting to knows how stressful the entire process can be. But some builders seem to make it easier than others, and some tend to drag their feet on every problem and/or resolution.

Building with Metricon was a roller coaster ride – they had some very good qualities to their company, and some bad. At the end of the day we’re satisfied with our new home, but there were definitely speed bumps along the way. Here’s a quick scorecard, rating our build with Metricon Homes

HOME Magazine Interview

Home MagazineIn an earlier post, I mentioned the possibility of HOME Magazine (the insert in the Sunday Edition of The Telegraph) doing a piece on our experience of building with Metricon Homes, Blacktown Council, and how we came to live at Stonecutters Ridge. This morning, I received confirmation that they’ve greenlighted the story.

So, once we’re in and situated, we’ll have the unique opportunity to talk about experiences – both good and bad about building our own home as well as our reasons behind choosing Stonecutters Ridge as a place to settle down and stay while. It looks like they’ll not only send someone out to interview us about the home building process, but a photographer as well. It’ll be an unfamiliar position for me – for once I won’t be the one taking the pictures!

It’s likely to be interesting speaking to someone who is heavily involved in home design/building. Sure, we might have a lot of stories to tell, but I’m looking forward to seeing how our process stacks up against others that they may have spoken with in the past.

Cleaning up the mess

An early morning visit to the house today proved to be fruitful. Not only did we arrive early enough to have come and gone before the first thunderstorm of the season hit, but we had cleaners on site clearing out a lot debris that was scattered around the house. The place is looking great! Do you think if we asked nicely enough, they’d help us clean up the problematic screening issue at Council? After all, Metricon left it up to us to sort out – unless we wanted to spend a ‘significant amount’ to replace the doors with Merbau.

In an interesting twist though, I received a phone call from the Medallist office at work yesterday asking if we’d be interested in having a piece written up in Home Magazine (the free insert in the Sunday edition of The Telegraph newspaper) about our build experience with Metricon, Council, and why we chose Stonecutters Ridge. While the details are still being finalised, the timing is pretty ironic. At any rate, I’ll let you guys know how that pans out. I’ve also been asked to take photos of Stonecutters Ridge for Medallist to be used for random promotional material. Again, it’s still early days, but it’s an intriguing offer.
