Visualise 2.0

In an attempt to try and truly visualise what our house may look like once it has been completed, I’ve scoured the web to try and find a truly accurate representation of our colour scheme. Seeing as Metricon is one of the largest builders in Australia (though relatively new to NSW), I’ve stumbled upon a number of building blogs similar to ours.

One in particular, “The Humble Fortress” has built a Liberty 38 (same layout, slightly smaller) and have chosen a colour scheme almost identical to what we’ve settled on…

Really the only differences that you’ll see with our build is that we’ve used Colorbond roofing instead of tile, and with the little bit extra width to the house, the balcony doors will be double french doors that open inward. All in all, it’s pretty similar. These guys have opted for the workshop extension off the left side of the garage as well – something I’m pretty excited about with our build. Finally we’ll be able to park both cars inside AND have room to work on projects.

While you can’t really see it from this angle, they’ve opted for the larger outdoor room off the back of the house, something we didn’t feel we needed. We’ll already have over 12sqm of outdoor covered space in the back.

Until next time…

Hi Megan and Stefan. My husband stumbled across your site this afternoon and we were so excited to find someone building a metricon home with a blog in the north west. There doesn’t seem to be many blogs in Sydney that I’ve found. We’re building a Metricon Newhaven in The Ponds, which we’ve made a few changes to. Good luck with council, I hope that it goes through quickly for you. Sarah.

P.S. We chose exactly the same colours as the Liberty at the ponds, as you can see on our website. The picture on our blog is one of the display home in QLD that we went to visit.

    Hi Stefan,

We are in the process of nutting out our Liberty 42plans and stumbled across your blog. Have noted that you mention that your house is a little wider – did you ask for this? How much wider and how much did that add to the price (if you can remember). Also I see that you added a double sided fireplace, was this done through metricon in totality or did you have a retrofit. We are looking at this, but metricon want about $15K for it. I also note that you did you aircond as a retrofit but had the ducting added, how did this work. Apologies for so many questions. But thank you for your blog has made navigating our way so much easier.

    Kindest Regards, Karrie

    Hi Karrie,

The house is a little wider, only because we added a workshop onto the side of the garage. It’s about 1m wider or so. I don’t remember how much it was exactly, but compared to other upgrades with Metricon (in particular, the fireplace), it was relatively inexpensive – around $2k or so I believe.

We had the fireplace put in by Metricon and, as you’ve discovered, we paid a premium for it. As for the ducting, I would definitely recommend having this put in during the build, as it’s very difficult and very time consuming to do afterwards. The A/C unit itself and the remaining infrastructure was cheaper to do after the build, and only took about 3-4 hours to install.

Hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any other questions.
