Exactly 365 days after putting our deposit down with Metricon, we received our keys.
For those who have been reading on a regular basis, you probably wondered why the awkward two week absence from our regular blogging schedule. A lot had been up in the air with Metricon about dates and how handover was going to be handled but alas, it’s all history now.
Welcome to our new home.
I thought the build process was a whirlwind adventure. Moving in and getting all our services and extras (like a driveway, fencing, screens etc.) squared away is a whole different level. It almost feels like a full time job. The house looks great, and while there are a few outstanding issues that need to be resolved with Metricon, our site supervisor made the handover process effortless – ensuring that anything we find wrong with the house over the next 90 days will be attended to in a timely matter.
Unfortunately the head office doesn’t appear to want to address other concerns we’ve had in the same way. We are still attempting to get a refund for unused fill that was promised to be refunded. While this was promised to us verbally at the time of contract signing, and referenced many times through email during the build process, Metricon always stated it would be resolved at the end of the build process. Now finished, they are refusing to refund anything – stating it was never agreed upon and we were “putting words in their mouths”. I’ve received the General Manager’s contact details and intend on taking this further, but as a word of caution, be sure to get everything in writing.
